Lineage
At Ashland Zen Center we offer formal Zen Practice in
the tradition of Zen master Shunryu Suzuki. Suzuki Roshi established
Zen practice in the San Francisco Bay area in the 1970's and is known
for his book Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind.
Les
Kaye, a Zen priest ordained by Suzuki Roshi in 1971, helped establish
Kannon Do Zen
Meditation Center in Mt. View, Ca. In 1986, Les was officially recognized
as a successor in the linneage of Shunryu Suzuki, and is currently teacher
and Abbot at Kannon Do. He is the author of "Zen
at Work" where he shares his experience gained by integrating spiritual
practice into the workplace.
This tradition continues at Ashland Zen Center through
the encouragement of Harold Little and Patty Krahl. Les Kaye ordained
Harold in 1990, and ordained Patty in 1994. Harold and Patty met while
training at Tassajara Zen Mounain Center and were subsequently married.
Through this direct linneage and close communication
with Les Kaye, Suzuki Roshi's teachings and Zen practice are continued
at Ashland Zen Center.
